The Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) was founded in 1994 from the merger of several nuclear energy industry organizations, the oldest of which was created in 1953. The nuclear energy industry that NEI represents and serves includes:NEI-Logo175.gif

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) provided guidance for NEI to create specific requirements for nuclear power plants.  The NEI begun development of standards and released NEI 03-12 in 2004, NEI 04-04 in 2005, then several other cyber security regulations in early 2009. The current regulation NEI 08-09 was submitted for NRC endorsement on March 9, 2009. Several parallel efforts of other governmental organizations, such as the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), led to cyber security regulations for IT infrastructure which NEI incorporated into the current NEI 08-09 revision 3.

FoxGuard Solutions provides many of the necessary mitigation techniques that can be employed on nuclear licensees to minimize exposure to threats and meet the NEI regulations, including change management and validation of change prior to implementation which is carefully regulated in the nuclear industry.
